We are a company that prides itself on focusing on environmentally conscious clothing and accessories made from organic cotton.  We call it “Made Pure by Nature.” 

Just last year the founder of Origany, Raj Sardesh, thought of the idea of eco-friendly clothing that would appeal to a new generation of environmentally conscious and hip men and women.    Our belief is that today’s men and women view their environment as well as fashion in a global context.  To appeal to this audience, we made a conscious decision to create designs for our clothing that transcend boundaries by integrating English, Hindi and Chinese languages.   The fact that our designers speak these languages allows us to express our graphic prints into these multiple rich languages.  Our clothes are not only ideal for yoga and spas but also for everyday comfort wear with a relaxed attitude. We have extended our concept to launch "baby yoga wear" that is super soft, comfortable and unique.

Why Organic Cotton?

Over the past decade, you may have heard some of the reports citing conventional cotton farming as one of agriculture’s most environmentally destructive activities. The simple act of growing and harvesting the one pound of cotton fiber needed to make a T-shirt takes an enormous toll on the air, water, and soil, not to mention the health, of people living and working in the country where cotton is grown.

In fact, cotton crops are the second largest user of agricultural pesticides in the world (coffee is the first and tobacco the third). 25% of the world's insecticides and more than 10% of the world's pesticides are used on cotton, with 50 million pounds applied yearly in the United States. It takes a third of a pound of pesticides to produce enough cotton for a single item of clothing.

The worst part that not all of those pesticides stay on the cotton fields. It is estimated that only 25% of pesticides sprayed from a crop duster actually hit the crop. The remainder drifts for miles and lands on other food crops, residential areas and water sources. These pesticides are harmful. Four of the top nine pesticides used on cotton, (cyanide, dicofol, naled, propargite) are classified by the EPA as cancer-causing chemicals. According to a 1997 study by the International Labor Organization, "14% of all occupational injuries in the agricultural sector, and 10% of all fatal injuries can be attributed to pesticides."

Organically grown cotton eliminates these harmful chemicals and is certified by independent third parties and some state agencies to ensure that no synthetic substances were used in the cultivation and harvesting of the fibers. Cotton grown on land free of chemicals for three years is certified as “organic.”
